Recipe : Baked Pears with Nuts, Spices and Cultured Ghee

A Vata-Balancing Winter Treat

This cozy and comforting dessert is perfect for grounding Vata during the cold, dry winter months. The sweet and juicy pears, combined with the warm spices and nutty crunch, will leave you feeling nourished and balanced.

Ingredients:

  • 2 ripe pears
  • 1 tablespoon jaggery
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • 1 tablespoon chopped walnuts
  • 1 tablespoon chopped almonds
  • 1 tablespoon cultured ghee

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (or 180°C).
  2. Prepare pears: Wash the pears and cut them in half lengthwise. Remove the cores and stalk. Place them on a lined baking sheet.
  3. Prepare nuts and ghee: Coat and combine the chopped nuts like walnuts, almonds, pecans or other nuts of your choice with melted cultured ghee.
  4. Add toppings: Top the cored pear halves with the chopped nuts and cultured ghee.
  5. Prepare spice mix : In a small bowl, combine the jaggery, cinnamon and cardamom powder.
  6. Add toppings: Sprinkle the pears with the jaggery mixture.
  7. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 30 minutes, or until tender.
  8. Serve: Serve immediately while warm.

  • Jaggery: Jaggery is indicated in Ayurveda as a natural sweetener that is easier to digest than refined sugar and can help to ground Vata.
